What's this About?
The big ideas project has many purposes that inflict on our education. It's main purpose, in my opinion, is to give us a better understanding of the book and how it relates to not only us, but the real world. It requires us to connect the story with math, science, history, and art, which I think helps us not only have a better understanding of the story, but these subjects, as well.
Then Buttercup said it: ‘I can live without love.’ And with that she left Westley alone.” After falling in love, hearing he’s dead, living 5 years of misery, being captured by him just to be together, being saved on multiple occasions, and their overall love, Buttercup abandons him?! Although anyone would very much rather live than die, I can’t believe Buttercup would leave him like that. Does this mean that Westley will become a future enemy as a result of this shocking twist, will he continue to fight for Buttercup, or will he be killed? If so, who will kill him, since Humperdinck made an oath not to?
This quote and analysis relates to our theme by showing that once you've found love, you may not always end up having it forever. It may be true that Buttercup is leaving Westley, but she still does truly love him. This is because finding something is one thing, but keeping it to yourself, away from people who might tear it away from you, is a whole other story. |
Tr...ooooo..luv…’ Fezzik grabbed onto Inigo in panic and they both pivoted, staring at the man in black, who was silent again.” Westley, the man in black, had come back from the dead just to show everyone that true love is so important to him and the rest of the world. He's dead, yet he cares about Buttercup so much that he is speaking, even though it shouldn't be possible. He is defying the laws of science just to get back to Buttercup. Inigo and Fezzik are shocked because they are seeing a man so passionate for love unlike anyone they've ever seen before. The are witnessing the effects of true love, and how important it is to someone once they have it.
This quote and analysis relates to our theme by showing that finding love is something powerful, rare, and truly death-defying (literally and physically) because it made Westley so determined he came back from the dead for her. Finding love is something that so many people strive for, and once you have it, there really is no letting go. And when someone sees something like this, a person actually coming from the dead to be with his love, they'd have a right to be surprised. I would be, too. |
Quote AnalysisThis quote represents our theme by showing that finding love isn't always you finding the other person, but rather the other person finding you. This represents that you need two people in one relationship, and that you can't just fall into the arms of every person you meet, but only the one you love, which is why finding it before you fall is so important.
